Reverse Macro Photography

I've been reading up on macro photography, with a twist. Some have even called it the poor man's version of macro photography. Macro lenses are not cheap, and for some spending $300 on up for macro lens, is just too much.

So the cheapest method that some have come up with is to use your existing lens in reverse. In order to be able to do this, you need some adapter rings, similar to the filter rings. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that some enterprising people have them built to fit a particular camera (nikon, olympus, canon etc) body mount.

I have been to ebay, and yes, made purchases for a reverse macro adapter ring to fit my particular brand of camera. I also bought some step down and step up rings so I can use more than one lens in reverse (the lens diameter come in different sizes).

I cannot wait for the items that I ordered at ebay to arrive! More so after browsing through photos that have been shared by users of this macro reverse method on Flickr! mrgreen

I thought the photos uploaded by members of the Poor-Man's Macro Group Pool on Flickr really interesting. Amazing what reversing a camera lens can do!

iPad 3G in stores today

The iPad 3G is now available in Apple Stores, since 5.00 p.m. yesterday evening. You know how that makes me feel today?

Jump in the car and drive to the nearest Apple store!

That's how I feel but unfortunately I'll have to hold off for a little while. There are just too much, where expenses are concerned, that are more urgent right now.

But, once I made and collected enough from the little bit that I am doing from my very part time income generating activities, there's no holding me back! mrgreen

Reopened!

This blog is back! And a new template to go with the reopening!

I have decided to reopen this blog and start blogging on it again. As if I don't already have enough blogs to maintain! mrgreen

Recent "events" have made it worthwhile to continue maintaining and updating this blog so you will see occasional updates here. The registration for the custom domain name for this blog has not expired and the reopening of this blog has made it all the more reason to continue paying for the domain name.

I am not sure if there is going to be a main focus for this blog ... maybe on the more techy gadgety stuff, not that I am tech savvy, but who knows ... I do love gadgets, afterall!

I welcome your visits and comments on this blog. wink

My new Asus Eee Box

Recently I bought a 52" LCD HDTV. One thing that I liked about this TV is that it can be used as a computer monitor. It has all the inputs for computer use. On the eve of Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving and Black Friday) I was browsing through Best Buy and Amazon - just in case I see something I might "need". It was at Amazon that I came across an Asus Eee Box. I had never heard of the Asus Eee Box before. It is a very small desktop pc, super quiet, about the size of a large novel and weighing about 1 kg. I read the reviews and found that people are using the Eee Box as a server and for a very mobile desktop.

I immediately thought how convenient it would be for me to watch my Malaysian web TV news on my new 52" LCD TV! I asked Doug if I should get it. I had already spent quite a bit on the TV, a new 19" flat screen monitor, and a new all-in-one printer. Doug said, go ahead and get it if I needed it.

Since I'd already got the green light from Doug, I went ahead and made my order. The desktop arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to set it up! I had already ordered the DVI to HDMI cable that will enable the desktop to be connected to the TV.

Above, my little Eee Box sitting on my subwoofer in the living room. The mouse is small and you can see the size of the Eee box in relation to the mouse. It is connected to the internet via wifi.

The resolution on the large screen when used on full screen mode isn't all that great but when viewed from my sofa chair, it is quite acceptable! I am now able to watch the latest TV news that is available on the Bernama, TV3, NTV7 and TV9 websites on my TV and it feels like I am watching the news while in Malaysia! It's a great feeling!

The only problem is, I am still unable to get the speakers on the TV to work with the computer. I had to take my Altec Lansing speakers from my desktop to hear anything. I'll need Doug to look into this issue later!

I love this Eee box and might consider getting another one for the kids. I'll have to get an external CD-ROM/DVD drive so they can play their video games since the Box does not come with any.
